Tour de Hardangerjøkulen
Norway's sixth largest glacier, Hardangerjøkulen, sits majestically north of the Hardangervidda plateau. Not only is the glacier an impressive sight in itself, but the surrounding area offers spectacular and varied nature. Over the course of five days, you will experience everything from the dramatic Vøringsfossen waterfall to areas with few other visitors. Sometimes we are very close to the glacier, and we visit Finse with all its history. Top this off with delicious, home-cooked food, a good bed, sauna and cultural elements at Halne Fjellstugu, and you have the recipe for a trip you will rarely forget. There are long daily stages, but experienced and certified guides from Fjellboms will take you safely to your destination.

Program
Day 1 Halne Fjellstugu
We meet at Halne Fjellstugu at 18:00, where Geirmund (host) and the guide will greet you. We eat a delicious 3-course dinner and get to know each other a little better. After dinner, we have a gathering where the guide goes through the route, and we make sure that everyone has the necessary equipment. Then a good night's sleep awaits. If any anyone should be up early this morning, maybe it would be tempting to take a refreshing mountain bath in the Halnefjord? Or you can relax in one of the living rooms with a cup of hot tea.

Day 2 Halne - Vøringsfossen - Rembesdalseter
We start the day with a good breakfast. Then we are transported to Vøringsfossen, about half an hour's drive. Vøringsfossen is one of Norway's most famous and visited waterfalls. There’s a good reason for that. With a waterfall of a total of 182 meters, of which 145 meters are vertical falls, straight down into Måbødalen, it is spectacular. With facilitated viewpoints and a design bridge over the river, you can safely experience the waterfall in all its glory. We then start our hike around Hardangerjøkulen. From Fossli we move up into the mountain birch forest, and eventually come up to the high mountains. We have both uphill and downhill sections, and some flatter sections. In total, we have about 21 km in hilly terrain. After a long first day of hiking, it will be good to arrive at the cabin. Rembesdalseter is a self-service DNT cabin, without running water and electricity, with only 16 beds. In good DNT style, we must be prepared to share the cabin with other nice mountain people, even if this is an area where there is not much traffic. It is beautifully situated by Rembesdalsvatnet, and close to Rembesdalskåki, perhaps the most spectacular glacier arm from Hardangerjøkulen. There is a food storage at the cabin, but we carry some food from Halne to raise the standard of the food. As the Norwegian saying says; Without drink and food - the hero is no good.

Day 3 Rembesdalseter - Finse
We get up early, so that after breakfast and cleaning we can get going. We have another long day ahead of us, about 21 km, and we start the day with some good climbs. From the cabin at approx. 960 meters above sea level, we go all the way up to over 1500 meters above sea level. Demanding, but on the other hand spectacular western Norwegian nature. Among other things, we pass Ramnabergvatnet where the glacier lies all the way out into the water on the opposite side. As we approach Finse, we cross the river before Finsevatnet and walk the last stretch along Rallarvegen. We are now in the middle of two of our beautiful national parks; Hardangervidda and Skarvheimen. We walk past historic Finse station and Finse hotel, and end up at cozy Finsehytta, 1223 meters above sea level. The managers Sonja and Rune welcome us, and you can expect a hot shower in newly renovated premises, a lovely 3-course dinner and it is even possible to buy locally brewed beer and cider. We live in 4-6 person rooms. For those who don't just want to dive into bed, there is hopefully a view of several of the largest glacier arms (Blåisen and Middalsbreen) from Hardangerjøkulen where the evening sun bathes them in golden light.

Day 4 Finse - Krækkja - Fagerheim - Halne mountain cabin
There will be no rest day today either. But first, a good breakfast at Finsehytta. It will be the longest day in distance, but there is only a few hundred meters of elevation gain, and a relatively easy terrain. We have the Hardangerjøkulen glacier close to our right to start with, before we look south over the enormous Hardangervidda, Northern Europe's largest high mountain plateau. On a clear day, we can see all the way to Gaustatoppen. After 23.6 km, we arrive at the pleasant DNT cabin Krækkja. We make a short stop before we complete the last stage which is almost flat, 5.7 km to Fagerheim at Rv7, where we are picked up and driven the short distance to Halne fjellstugu, only 5 minutes away.
We are probably all a little tired, but still we expect that everyone is ready for a proper feast to celebrate our trip and new friendships. Of course, there will be time for a hot shower, and for those who want it, the sauna is fired up. Dinner is prepared in Steinbua, exclusively for us, and the kitchen offers its specialties. Geirmund stands for cultural elements, so you can only look forward to it!

Day 5 Halne Fjellstugu

Today is a day of rest. We can finally take a quiet morning, enjoy a long breakfast and rest tired legs. We say goodbye and move on, whether it is by car or bus home, whether you want to hike further south along Hardangervidda or maybe you want to extend your stay at Halne?

Price NOK 8,690 per person which includes:
* experienced and certified guide from Fjellboms. The guide also brings first aid kits, satellite emergency transmitters and other necessary equipment.
* 2 nights at Halne fjellstugu, with included dinners, breakfasts and a packed lunch. A sauna is also included.
* Transport from Halne to Vøringsfossen and from Fagerheim to Halne.
* 1 night at Rembesdalseter, including dinner, breakfast and packed lunch.
* 1 night at Finsehytta, including 3-course dinner, breakfast and lunch.

The tour does not include
Travel to and from Halne Fjellstugu.
Snacks/energy bars. It's nice to bring some dried fruit/nuts/chocolate to refill between meals.
Drinks with dinners. If you want something else besides fresh mountain water, this must be covered by the individual.

Requirements for participants and equipment
The trip is very demanding, with long daily stages in varied and hilly terrain. You should have some experience of hiking in high mountain terrain from before, used to walking with a backpack and being in good shape. This is not a trip for beginners. That said, you don't have to be superman either. It is also important that you have good and correct equipment. It is necessary that you pack as light as possible, but that you still have the equipment that the high mountains require. A packing list will be sent out in advance of the trip.

Transport
You can get to Halne by car. There is a road all the way to the door and parking there.
It is also possible to travel there by bus over Rv7 Hardangervidda.
A third option is by train to Haugastøl, and order pick-up from Halne fjellstugu. Booking and payment of this service is done directly with Halne fjellstugu by the individual.
